Motheye Smart Windows
We are developing a new class of thermochromic smart window that use the material properties of vanadium dioxide to modulate solar transmission in architectural glazing. Our approach differs from previous research as we propose to pattern the window surface with 'motheye' anti-reflection structures before applying a thin coating of vanadium dioxide. A window of this type could significantly reduce the energy spent on air-conditioning, heating, and lighting worldwide.
